Diode array based spectrometers are able to accurately acquire measurements of moving samples.  It is critical that the instrument used is able to measure changes in physical and chemical properties of the sample, and not introduce any errors due to slow data acquisition.

Most scanning devices take 250 milliseconds or more to acquire a full spectrum.  Compare this to one millisecond for a diode array.  The time it takes a scanning device to get one spectrum, we get 250 spectra.  This results in ~16 X improvement in signal to noise (square root of 256).  When looking at small changes, this could be the difference in being able to make a successful measurement.

Near infrared diode arrays are available in many configurations. The analyzer featured here has 512 element, and spectral response from 1200 nm to 2000nm.
